Cefoperazone and sulbactam for injection is a combination antibiotic medication used to treat many bacterial infections. Cefoperazone is a third-generation antibiotic agent, used in the treatment of various bacterial infections in the different parts of the body. 

This antibiotic works by interfering with the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, causing their destruction. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which helps prevent cefoperazone’s breakdown to fight against bacteria; it produces beta-lactamase enzymes, thus enhancing the effectiveness of cefoperazone.

This combination of medications is commonly used for severe infections such as intra-abdominal infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, etc. It is important to take medical advice before administering cefoperazone and sulbactam injections. 

Uses of Cefoperazone & Sulbactam for Injection

Cefoperazone and sulbactam for injection is a combination antibiotic medication primarily used to cure various bacterial infections. Here are some common uses:

• Intra-abdominal Infections: These include infections of the peritoneal infections, liver infections, and biliary tract infections. The combination works against a broad spectrum of bacteria commonly involved in these infections.
• Respiratory Tract Infections: Cefoprofloxacin and sulfobactam are medicines used to treat lung and airway infections, such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and pulmonary abscesses. They work against both common and uncommon respiratory infections.
• Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: This medication is proven to treat skin infections, such as cellulitis, infected wounds, and other infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Cefoperazone and sulbactam may be used to treat complicated UTIs, including pyelonephritis (kidney infection) and infections associated with catheterization (catheterization-related infections).
• Bone and Joint Infections: Infections of bones (osteomyelitis) and joints (septic arthritis) may be treated with this combination, especially when the infection is due to bacteria that resist other antibiotics.

Side-effects of Cefoperazone & Sulbactam for Injection

Though Cefoperazone and sulbactam a safe and well-tolerated medications one can experience common and possible side effects:

• A feeling of Nausea, Vomiting and diarrhea
• Individual may suffer an allergic reaction to the body due to the manifestation of lactamase enzymes
• Decrease in hemoglobin (Anemia)
• Decrease count of White Blood Cells (WBCs) and Red Blood Cells (RBCs)
• Allergic Reaction 
• Fatigue
• Liver Problems such as inflammation
• Abdominal pain
• Chills 
• Edema
• Rashes 

Direction To Use

1. Do not take cefoperazone + sulbactam injection without the doctor’s prescription. 
2. The dosage may vary from patient to patient, however, 2 to 4 per day is the average dosage given for sulbactam and cefoperazone injections. 
3. In case of side effects worsen, then stop taking sulbactam and cefoperazone injections immediately and consult the doctor. 

Precautions To Be Taken

1. Breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women are advised to consult their doctor before administering sulbactam and cefoperazone injections as they may pass through breast milk. 
2. In case of liver problems, it is important to take advice from healthcare professionals before using this medication.
3. If you are suffering from a kidney problem, it is highly advised to consult a professional as it may cause some serious side effects. 
4. Sulbactam and cefoperazone injection is not recommended for children before 12 age.
